HI! I'm a piano/guitar/ukulele teacher with over 20 years experience teaching both individual and group lessons, ages 5 - 85. I've been playing piano since age 5, started guitar at age 12 and now I play whatever I can get my hands on. My education in teaching music is by experience with a minor in music from Gonzaga University in 1991. I started teaching piano on the side while working as a journalist at a weekly newspaper in Seattle and moved to full-time teaching with a nonprofit music school for at-risk kids, Youth Advancement Through Music and Art (YATMA).
When I moved to Portland, OR in 2011, I started teaching individual and group piano, guitar and ukulele at Ethos Music, a nonprofit music school for children and adults offering affordable lessons and free instrument rentals. Along with lessons at Ethos, I also taught my own individual piano students, as well as a weekly kids yoga class and three weekly adult yoga classes. I like to incorporate fun and mindful-based yoga breathing and stretching in my group classes, as well as awareness of breath and posture in individual lessons. Although I'm from the Northwest, I moved to Pittsburgh in 2018 to explore the Northeast and to be closer to family in the surrounding area. I currently teach four families on my own and am very glad to be a part of the Sunburst School of Music community and music education programs.
My motto in every lesson and class is to provide a positive musical experience and to inspire students to want to practice and learn about the universal language of music.
